📐 Shapes and Geometry Practice
Geometry is the math of shapes, space and measurement, from naming a triangle to finding the volume of a cylinder.
These topics start with shapes and their sides, then cover area and perimeter, angles, volume, circles, the Pythagorean theorem, similar shapes and trigonometry.
Topics, by the age they were designed for
- Age 5ShapesName the shape
- Age 6Shapes and sidesCount the sides
- Age 8Area & perimeterRectangles
- Age 9Missing sidesArea & perimeter puzzles
- Age 9AnglesComplementary & supplementary
- Age 10VolumeBoxes (rectangular prisms)
- Age 11Area of shapesTriangles & parallelograms
- Age 12CirclesCircumference & area (π = 3.14)
- Age 12Angle puzzlesLines, triangles, vertical angles
- Age 13Pythagorean theoremRight triangles
- Age 13Volume of round shapesCylinders, cones, spheres (π = 3.14)
- Age 15Parallel linesAngles with a transversal
- Age 15Triangle anglesSum and exterior angles
- Age 15Polygon anglesInterior angles
- Age 15Special right triangles45-45-90 and 30-60-90
- Age 15Sine, cosine, tangentSOH CAH TOA
- Age 15Similar shapesScale factors
- Age 15Circle measuresArcs and areas in terms of π
- Age 15Distance & midpointOn the coordinate plane
- Age 15Volume & surface areaPrisms, cylinders, cones, pyramids
- Age 15Parallel & perpendicular linesSlopes
- Age 15Composite shapesArea of combined shapes
The age on each topic is the age it was designed for, based on typical US school math. Schools in other countries teach topics in a different order, so treat the age as a guide and start where your child is comfortable.
Helping at home
- Measure real rectangles, such as a book, a room or a garden, to find area and perimeter.
- Sketch the shape before solving. A quick drawing prevents many mistakes.
- Say the formula out loud and check the units: length, square units and cubic units.
How the practice works
Each practice round has 10 questions. Your child can type the answer or tap a choice, gets a second try, and sees the correct answer and a short hint when needed. Questions are generated fresh each time. It is free, with no sign-up and no ads, and progress and stars are saved on your device only.
Build your own course
On the Math Practice page, tap "Add to my course" on any topic from any age. Your picks are collected in one place, and a mixed round draws questions from only those topics.
